1995 vw t4 van 2.4ltr diesel - glow plug test - fisherman111

Please could someone advise me how to test glow plugs? do you get at the wireing from the top or the bottom, or do you have to remone the front grill and fan. I have looked but cannot see any wire's just the diesel pipe going to the injectors and the return pipe. plus how can I check the fuel pump is running. thanks for any help you can give.
