vauxhall corsa c 1 litre 02 3cylinders - only running on 2 cylinders - mickeybo

After doing exhaustive checks on this checking out coil pack & wiring the 3 return wires from coil pack to the ecu switched earths. Number 2 cylinder was diagnosed it has lost it's ecu switched earth. I'm thinking of putting a independant earth to resolive this problem Any 1 down this road before or can add some assistance on this pls do so Regards Mickeybo

Beware this is a switched earth. Power is fed to all three coils the each is switched to earth by the ECU. It is a short pulse to zero volts. If you are sure it is the ECU then contact BBA-Reman and have it repaired. Regards Peter

As above,this is an internal switching fault within the ecu.Fairly common on these microscopic control units.Not sure if anybody can repair these successfully.May be worth running an additional earth wire from the existing earth ring terminal on the control unit direct to the battery earth.Sometimes this can improve the ground contact and reduce the internal load.hth

Ask them if it had ever suffered starting issue and the eng light flashed fast ! Intermintantly,As this is normally caused by bad earth to the ECU and does burn the ECU out just as elecki says
Always best to put an extra earth on these from batt to ECU and make sure it's a substantilal cable and soldered eyelets to reduce any resistance.

Around that time lead solder was banned and manufacturers didn't know how to manufactuire pcbs with any longevity with the enforced tech.

Check out youtube, if anything I'd think car parts were even worse affected than computer parts.
