What is the EU proposal to ban drivers over the age of 80?
The EU and the British Parliament are currently discussing the setting of a maximum age for drivers after which they will not be allowed to hold a driving licence. It has been a subject of discussion for over a year. The age suggested in the UK is 80 years.
In Spain, this problem is handled by compulsory regular medical check on elderly people who wish to continue to drive. Many feel this is a much more sensible solution than a blanket ban of everyone over the age of 80.
CURRENT Changes to the Mandatory Medical Periods for Drivers.
Notification has been published by Trafico about the changes to the periods for the medicals that drivers in Spain and they affect, of course, all those expats who are resident here using a foreign EU driving licence as is allowed by law, both Spanish and the EU Directive on the matter as noted in my web-site, so we all need to read and digest.
