123. INSURING IN ANOTHER EU STATE. If I buy a car in another EU state, how can I insure it to get it back?
Effective 11th June 2007:-
"By way of derogation from the second indent of Article 2(d) of Directive 88/357/EEC), where a vehicle is dispatched from one Member State to another, the Member State where the risk is situated shall be considered to be the Member State of destination, immediately upon acceptance of delivery by the purchaser for a period of thirty days, even though the vehicle has not formally been registered in the Member State of destination."
Assuming you can find a UK insurer who will write you such a policy, this allows you to insure a car bought in another EEC state with a UK insurer. EEC law previously did not allow this.
