New Cars
Good: Upmarket hybrid hatchback powered by the same hybrid drivetrain as the Toyota Prius. Emits just 96g/km CO2 so London Congestion Charge exempt.
Bad: Poor ride and handling. Slow performance. Lack of any driving pleasure.
Good: Sharper styled GS, 450h hybrid model and smaller 250 petrol engines available.
Bad: No diesel, not due until June 2012
Good: Incredibly refined and quiet. Effortless performance from all engines. Hybrid GS450h is superbly refines. Stuffed with technology and equipment. Excellent crash test rating.
Bad: Not the smoothest motorway cruiser. Some reports of below-par cabin assembly. Alloy wheels can oxidise. No diesel in the range.
Good: Very well built. IS220d is economical. Top quality interior. Lexus dealers are the best in the business. Impressive refinement. All engines chain cam. IS250 Probably the most reliable car you can buy.
Bad: Poor change of manual gearbox and not suited to V6 petrol engine. Petrol IS250 thirsty. Ride and handling lag behind C Class, 3 Series and Mondeo. Rear seats don't fold.
Good: Incredibly refined, barely any top-down turbulence, metal-folding roof retracts smoothly, effortless performance.
Bad: Thirsty, expensive to run, soft handling means it's no sports car, lacks the feelgood factor you'd expect of a convertible.
Good: Thunderous performance from V8 engine yet docile at low speeds, high quality cabin, well equipped as standard, understated looks.
Bad: Hard ride especially on uneven roads, not as involving as other top performance saloons.
Good: Amazing Lexus supercar, incredibly exclusive, powered by V10 engine with more than 550bhp, 0-62mph takes just 3.7 seconds.
Bad: Costs an eye-watering £330,000.
Good: Hybrid technology delivers V12-like performance with V6-diesel economy. Refined and supremely plush. Almost fanatical quality standards.
Bad: Anonymous looks.
Good: Refined and cossetting. Strong performance from hybrid powerplant. Superbly engineered and well built. Low CO2 for a large 4x4 along with good fuel economy.
Bad: Not very involving to drive. Bland interior lacks the style of other premium SUVs. Ride can be unsettled.
