What is an 'air doser' and why does my Citroen Berlingo need a new one?

I have been told I may have a sticky air doser on my 1.9 diesel Citroen Berlingo. What is an air doser and is it expensive to repair?

The air doser is like a butterfly valve which adjusts the air flow, normally fitted between the intercooler and the turbo. It may be worth trying to clean it rather than replace. Specialist companies can supply really good cleaner agents.
