The DPF in my Mazda 6 has failed - should the dealer replace it?

I bought a secondhand 2007 Mazda 6 estate with 62000 miles clocked, so it's out of warranty but under three years old, from a very small dealer - they seemed to sell one car at a time from home but traded as dealers. I bought it on 18 June 2010 so I've owned it for just over two months. The diesel particulate filter needs replacing, for which Mazda want to charge nearly £2000 including an oil change and VAT. Do I have any recourse against the dealers who sold it, and isn't £1700 a lot for a new filter?

Yes. You can either get your money back or demand they replace the DPF. That's your legal right. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights
