Can my warranty company replace my Saab 9-5's turbo with a reconditioned unit?

My 2004 Saab 9-5 3.0 TDI's pressure sensor warning light has come on. The warranty company has proposed sending the turbo away to be reconditioned at cost of £500, as opposed buying a new turbo from Saab for around £3000. Would a warranty company be obligated to buy a new turbo or can they insist on the reconditioning route?

They can insist on the cheapest repair that does the job, and what they propose makes sense.
