Why is my Vauxhall Vectra's engine management light on?

My S-reg Vauxhall Vectra 1.8's engine management light has been on for a week. Does anyone know why?

With the 1.8 it's usually a choked EGR valve. The bodge solution is to have it removed and the ECU reprogrammed. If you hunt around you'll find a garage that is used to doing this, but it won't be a Vauxhall dealer.
