Which pick-up should I replace my written-off Nissan Navara with?

I've just had my 54 plate D22 Nissan Navara written off by another driver. I'm hoping I can get maybe £7000 from the insurance and now find myself with an issue. Do I spent the £7000 on another similar D22, but then I run the con rod failure risk. Or do I get a 2004-ish L200? These are juicy on diesel and have cold starting problems, from what I've seen. Or do I spend a little more, £12,000, and get maybe a 56-plate Navara D40 or L200, but then these have issues anyway? I have discounted Toyota as I have been told they average 22mpg, and I just don't like Fords. Any ideas?

My favourite pick-up engine is the Isuzu 2.5 I-TEQ fitted to the D-Max/Rodeo/Colorado from 2007. It's chain cam with a very amiable power deilvery and an excellent transmission. Ours gives 40mpg.
