Part of the NOx emissions fix involves reprogramming the injector and if they're worn they might not have taken too kindly to this. First things first, I’d take it back to the dealer who carried out the update and see if they can rectify it. If they cannot help then I’d take it up with Volkswagen customer services as this won't be the first emissions update problem they will have heard of.
