Can I insure both of my cars on separate insurance policies to get my no claims discount?

I'm investigating buying a fun car. My current insurance company does not offer multicar policies, however another insurance company I've spoken to does. They state that, even though there is only one of me, I can't have my 11 years+ of No Claims Discount that I've built up on both cars in a multicar policy. They advised that I could have an introductory discount equivalent to it, but it may not be recognised by another company if I should keep two cars and change insurance firms. Is this right? Alternatively, could I have two policies with two different companies and have the well earned NCD running in tandem on both?

They have told you their terms. If you have built up 11 years + NCD on both separate policies then you can re-insure both cars separately and, depending on the insurer, transfer whatever NCD they allow to each policy separately. Multicar policies are usually treated like Trade Policies, allowing no accumulation of NCD.
