Should Audi fully cover the replacement of the ABS pump in my A3?

The ESP light on my Audi A3 is permanently illuminated. From the fault code I believe it is the much-maligned problem with the ABS pump, which I was completely unaware of until I started doing some research. How common is it with the Audi A3 and where do I stand on getting full recompense for the repair cost? Audi have currently offered me 50 per cent 'goodwill' which I've rejected. I am now threatening them with legal action. The car is four years old with 50,000 miles on the clock. All MOT's and servicing have been done through Audi.

It's extremely common. If Audi mucks you about, you can have it repaired by ECU Testing for about £300.
