My Vauxhall Vectra B won't start even after replacing the fuel pump - help!

My Vauxhall Vectra B cut out whilst travelling. I tried to start the car up and it wouldn't start. The engine management light and 'spanner' light flash, then both stay on. I've changed the fuel pump and the symptoms are still the same - it won't start. I've checked the fuses and all are ok. Do you think one of the fuel control relays is playing up (I'm getting 12v at the pump) or could it be a sensor in the engine (crankshaft)?

For your car to start it will need fuel and ignition, and at the correct timing. So before you go changing different items, have you actually checked to see if you have fuel getting to the cylinders and also have you a ignition spark? You first need to identify which of these is the problem, and then adopt a logical approach.
