Are EGR valve failures linked to the Volkswagen Emissions Scandal?

You recently gave this advice to a question on the 5 December:

"If the EGR fails prematurely (within 60k miles) I am telling people to try to claim this as a consequence of the VAG emissions defeat ECU programming. More than 60k, they can get choked anyway in any diesel."

Could I press you on how you would approach this when dealing with a Volkswagen dealership or Volkswagen UK customer service?

The fact that an unusual number of VAG EA189 1.6TDI engines are requiring replacement EGR valves and the fact that this very same engine is programmed to conceal that it is actually a very dirty engine, which is why it is subject to compulsory recall to be fitted with new hardware and a new software programme.
