Vauxhall Meriva power steering failure

My husband was driving our Vauxhall Meriva home from work yesterday and there was a code on the dash and the power steering failed. We've had the car from new - bought November 2011. Any suggestions?

Owners are starting to suffer the same EPAS failures as plagued the Meriva A, but the cause is frequently holding the steering against the lock stops as this burns out the EPAS motor.
