Damage to vehicle - where do I stand?

I bought a van to convert to a camper 8 months ago and due to the fact it has been stored as work has been done to it I have only just noticed the sliding door colour is different and on closer inspection is full of filler, there is also further damage to the rear doors and more filler. None of this was advised when I bought it (from a dealer). I bought it in the rain and didnt make the usual checks because it was from a dealer and didnt expect it to be in such condition, when thinking that that side of the van was against a wall when I viewed makes me think it was known - where do I stand?

Up to 6 months the burden would be on the dealer to prove that you did not do the damage. After 6 months the burden is on you to prove the damage was present when you bought the van. If you can prove it you can invoke Clegg v Olle Andersson 2003. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
