Buying a first car for £9k

I am looking at buying my first car. I am a 24 year old female who wants something reliable, secondhand and priced between £5000 - £9000. I quite like the Vauxhall Cora. What would you recommend?

Vauxhall has a Corsa 'special' going new for £8995. Drive it, then also drive a new Viva at £7995. I think the Viva has more sparkle. That said, Corsas have an impressive record for reliability. We receive very few complaints.
