Need a large and capable SUV

We currently have 2 cars: 2008 Volvo XC90 D5 AWD and 2012 Audi A3 Sportback 1.4 TFSI.

A change in job/location means two cars are no longer needed. So we need one car that combines both - something big for occasional long family trips, but that won't die from short trips to the supermarket. We'd quite like something large, like another Volvo XC90. What do you recommend?

An XC90 is colossal and I can't think of any SUV that offers that amount of space and 4WD with a petrol engine, except, maybe, a Toyota Alphard hybrid. But a Lexus RX450h might get close enough.
