Why is my Volkswagen Golf IV cutting out?

My 2000 Volkswagen Golf IV 2.0-litre automatic runs fine from cold, but when it warms up it starts to misfire, then has no power and then cuts out. I have replaced the coolant temperature sensor, crank speed sensor, distributor, cap leads and coil, changed the fuel pump relay, checked the fuel filter, fuel lines, fuel pump, checked resistance and wiring within the engine bay and at the pump, changed the knock sensor, the fuel pressure regulator has been checked, checked the valve timing, cut the catalytic converter open due to the engine overheating previously and removed the insides, as blocked, but the car still cuts out when it's warm. Any ideas?

See the entry in car-by-car breakdown. The Golf MkIV Cabriolet was really a Golf MkIII, so also see the MkIII Golf entry.
