What are your views on the AMT automatic gearbox in the 2007 Mitsubishi Colt?

We are looking for a small car for my mother, with the following characteristics: four or five doors as a baby seat needs loading and unloading, diesel as weekly trips up and down the motorway will be made so economy is important, and automatic due to slight arthritis. We've identified a 2007 Mitsubishi Colt with an AMT automatic gearbox, but we've heard a few mixed things about the reliability of this gearbox, so I'm interested in your views. Also, are there any other cars we should be considering for £5-8000?

I've had a few very good reviews of this combination, reaching 100,000 reliable miles. That doesn't mean they will all be okay. And, of course, it is an automated manual, not a true automatic.
