Which car is best for towing a horse box?

We are looking for a vehicle to tow a horse trailer over long distances to riding events. Parking at these events usually involves driving through muddy fields so four-wheel drive is a must.

Our 2003 2.8 diesel Jeep Cherokee auto has been a faithful servant to our needs for over 10 years but has recently had a few reliability issues - well; it has covered just over 210,000 miles.

Key criteria is that the vehicle must be as reliable as possible and safely accommodate a minimum gross towing weight of 2500kg. With a budget of £15-20k we'd be looking for something second hand.
