Not had insurance for 2 years - have I lost my no claims bonus?

I have not had insurance for over two years. I understand from my most recent insurer that I will have now lost my nine years NCD unless I re-insure with them before three years are up. (Fair enough, though the premium quoted doesn't seem to reflect that...)

If I re-insure now with my previous insurer for one year, they will keep my no claims bonus. Will other insurers recognise my no claims after this or will I have to stay with the same insurer for the foreseeable future?

Normally you lose any NCD if you don't re-insure within 2 years, so your insurer is offering you some special terms. Can't say if, after a year, other insurers will penalise you for the 2 year gap. Will vary from insurer to insurer.
