Buying a Subaru Outback - diesel or petrol?

I am looking to purchase a Subaru Outback (new or ex-demonstrator) as a long term purchase. My main type of motoring though is a 4.5 mile trip to work in the morning and back again in the evening so my current BMW 2.0 diesel does not even get warm. Overall I do about 9000 miles a year. Should I buy diesel or petrol?

Reports suggest that it's best to avoid the 2.0 litre Subaru 'Boxer' diesel anyway.
