Volkswagen 2.0 TDI fuel consumption increase - what's causing it?

I own a 2009 Volkswagen Passat 1.6 TDI BlueMotion and recently I realised that the fuel consumption has increased considerably. I used to do 49 mpg easily and now I struggle to do 42mpg. Last week the DPF light came on and after few miles gone off again. The car didn't lost any power and has driven normally. I do about 60 miles per day, about 30 miles are on dual carriageway roads (A road and) I keep the engine over 2500 revs in the 5th gear most off the time on those roads. The car has done 85k mileage and been serviced regularly. Could you please tell me what can I do to have the fuel consumption back on normal?

Your car will be recalled next year for the EA189 NOx cheat fix, but these EA189 1.6 TDI are particularly prone to EGR prblems and by 85k miles your DPF will be pretty much full of ash anyway. You could have the DPF cleaned out by the Ceramex process, then, if the EGR is not also gummed up, simply wait for next year's NOx cheat fix but run the car on Shell V-Power Nitro Plus diesel to try to clean the fuel system.
