Which wheel size for a Nissan Qashqai?

I am thinking of buying a Qashqai n-Tec which comes with 18-inch wheels but with an option to have 17-inch instead free of charge. Which size wheel is the better choice and why?

17-inch wheels and tyres give a softer, more absorbent ride making it better over potholes and road humps. The tyres last longer and are cheaper to replace. 18-inch wheels and tyres with less rubber between the rims and the road give slightly more positive steering at the expense of ride comfort, but a Qashqai still rides reasonably well on them.
