My Peugeot TUD5 diesel-engined car rattles when cold. Is it supposed to?

My car has the Peugeot TUD5 diesel engine. Whenever I start my car, when the engine is cold it makes a rattling sound and it fades as the engine starts gaining temperature. After a hot start it doesn't make any rattling sound - it makes the sound only when the engine is cold. I feel I need to get the engine tappet clearances adjusted - what do you suggest?

There's no need to worry, it is normal for most vehicles fitted with hydraulic tappets to do this. Once the vehicle is started and running the noise will reduce and then go completely.
