Cheap second hand car?

I had a bad experience buying a second hand Peugeot for £695. Which car would you recommend going for and what should I particularly be looking out for when I buy it?

A £700 car comes with no guarantees whatever the reputation of the model. But if you can find one I'd be looking at a Toyota Yaris as generally the least likely £700 car to become a money pit.
