Is my Nissan Micra's temperature warning light connected to the engine malfunction light?

My 1994 Nissan Micra's engine malfunction light has come on. For the last week, my temperature warning light has been coming on now and again, too. Is this connected in any way?

The engine malfunction light means you should stop driving the car immediately and take it to a garage so they can find out what is the problem. Driving it further will only cause damage to it. The temperature light is no doubt connected with this. Look in the handbook for more information.
