Is Volvo aware of the fault with the TEVES Mk60 ABS control unit as fitted to my S40?

I have a Volvo S40 on an 05 plate with just 35,000 on the clock. My local Volvo dealership closed about 12 months ago leaving the nearest about 25 miles away. After much trying, I have had the information message 'Anti-skid service required' finally explained to me. It would appear that my Volvo, like probably hundreds if not thousands of other cars, had the TEVES Mk60 ABS control unit fitted at birth. I have been advised that to replace this unit is £1000-£1500 plus VAT and that it's a common fault with all makes of car it is fitted to. What line of action would you suggest and are Volvo aware of this problem?

Volvo cannot not be aware of the problem. Talk to your dealer and find out what sort of contribution towards the cost they are prepared to make. If nothing at all, then don't go to Volvo for the repair. Go to: ecutesting.com/vw_golf_touran_abs_pump_module.html (I know you don't have a Touran, but the ABS/ECU module is the same).
