Why is the immobiliser preventing my granddaughter's Renault Clio from starting?

My granddaughter's 1.2 Renault Clio fails to start at irregular intervals. The immobiliser light flashes and sometimes stays fully on. This can last up to 10 minutes before the car will start again. We have changed the sensor on the crankshaft, however the fault persists and we have sent it to a Renault garage who are unable to find any fault. Any suggestions as to what may be causing this fault?

You did the obvious thing in changing the flywheel sensor. There must be a software or wiring fault with the immobiliser, or possibly a bad earth.
