Need a seven-seater for towing - any suggestions?

My son in-law has decided to get rid of his 2007 Ford Galaxy diesel with 96,000 on the clock, before any DPF, DMF, belts or clutch needs changing. He would like a new Galaxy, but there are not many around as Ford is expecting a new model soon. Do you know when new one is due and will discounts be low?

Even though the new Galaxy has been announced we have not been given prices yet. We think, from around £28,000 and not much discount for private buyers even tough the fleets probably get 40 per cent off. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/ford/galaxy-2015/

The biggest fleet of Galaxys in the UK is run by Addison Lee who have around 4000 and they are all 2.0TDCI automatics, formerly six-speed torque converter, currently Powershift. Addison lee sells them off at 100,000 miles + from around £7000. Torque converter auto better fort towing than Powershift. As for used prices, it doesn't matter what you think they should be. They are determined by supply and demand.

The Galaxy is the best vehicle in its class (better than the Sharan/Alhambra) and supply is limited, so that's the reason for the high prices. I'd avoid Shalambra DSGs, even though they are the more reliable six-speeders. For towing, and for seven-seats, instead of a Galaxy consider the new KIA Sorento KX2: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/kia/kia-sorento-20.../
