Which car is best for £2k - Audi A2 or Toyota Yaris?

I would be grateful for your advice on buying a car on a budget of £2000 for mainly city driving but also the odd long-distance motorway journey.

I would like a car that is cheap to run and maintain but can also accommodate five adults and a weekly shop comfortably. Comfort is also quite important.

I have two strong contenders at the moment; a 2002 1.4 Toyota Yaris CDX with 100,000 on the clock, five previous owners, some service history and wear and tear which is priced at £1600.

The second option is an Audi A2 SE TDI (75) with 140,000 on the clock, part service history and wear which is priced at £1400 which seems like a very good price.

Get the Yaris and forget any idea of the A2. The A2 is a classic that might actually appreciate, but the potential for expense is huge, it's almost impossible to get the aluminium body repaired and it's not good to drive. The Yaris, on the other hand, is the most reliable small hatchback over 10 years old.
