Why is my Golf making a rattling noise?

I own a Golf Match 1.6fsi (2008) which has started to make a rattle noise when started on cold mornings. It goes on for at least three minutes and the rattle is heard when the revs drop.

I know this is related to the chain tensioner; the engine was replaced in July/August 2013 with a two year warranty. The noise started a few months after install. I did take it back to the dealer and they said it is a characteristic of the engine and will not result undue wear, tear or damage. What do you think?

Put your concerns in writing and send the letter by post office special delivery to the people who replaced the engine. Then it becomes a matter of record. But these engines, and the Peugeot/BMW 1.6 chain cam do suffer timing chain rattle and the rattle doesn't necessarily mean that the chain is about to fail. I heard it again last week in a brand new Peugeot 208GTI Edition 30.
