BMW won't heat up on short runs

My 2004 BMW 320d Estate is cold and refuses to blow hot air on short runs. I know diesels heat the engine first but is there any way I can get the cabin to heat up more quickly?

I'd guess that the basic engine cooling system thermostat is stuck open.
