Is the Honda Civic a reliable car?

I have been looking at cars for my 19 year old son and I came across a Honda Civic 2003 1.4i Imagine for sale at £1650 having done 51,000 miles. Is this a good buy? Is it a solid and reliable car?

Fairly okay. They were still belt cam then. It it's a 5-door it has the useful benefit of having fully reclinable seats that recline enough to make a bed, and more rear legroom than the average hatch. The 3 door doesn't have those benefits.
