Do you think Hyundai will help repair my 2003 Trajet's gearbox?

I have an 03-plate Hyundai Trajet 2.0CRTDi with approx 80,000 miles on the clock. When I change from first to second gear there is a very unhealthy crunching noise. From talking to Hyundai dealers and looking at various websites, it seems this is a very common problem with these models at this mileage and is well known to Hyundai. I have been quoted £900 for a dealer to fit some modified parts to the gearbox (if he can get hold of them, as they are in big demand and short supply) and a new clutch would make sense if he is doing the work at a further £150. I'm not sure if these prices include VAT.

Obviously the car is out of warranty but given that this is a well known and well documented problem, do you think I am within my rights to ask Hyundai to do the work or to at least go 50 per cent on the work? If so, what is the best tactic to employ with them?

No, because the car is seven years old and at the end of its design life anyway.
