Best used 7 seat SUV

Dear HJ, We brought our 57 plate Mercedes E-class Estate with has rear facing seats in the boot brought in anticipation adding to our two children. However, whilst they are okay for occasional use we do not think they will be as practical as a proper third row of seats. I am looking at a SUV with seven seats. I have been looking at the likes of the LR Discovery, Audi Q7, BMW X5, and Volvo XC90 and realise that I will need to add some money to anything I can get for the Mercedes and can afford about £4000. It would seem that only very high mileage cars are available for that amount but we need the car to be mechanically sound as we cannot afford to be without the car. Which of these would you recommend or are there any other models that would be better? Many thanks.

The money from a 57 reg E-Class 7 seater estate + £4k should buy you an XC90. You've got around £13k-£14k to play with. I'd check out the 2010 onwards Hyundai Santa Fe with the 2.2iCRDI 195PS engine. Found plenty on Autotrader from around £12k. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/hyundai/hyundai-sa.../
