Retro fitting cruise control - is it safe?

What's your advice regarding retro fitting of cruise control? I've found a firm who clam that this is feasible, but am a little worred about safety.

Put it this way, if the cruise control sticks, that is the speed at which you crash. So it can be done, but be aware of this potential drawback.
