Why is my Citroen Xsara making a knocking noise?

My 2001 Citroen Xsara 1,4 petrol is making a knocking noise. The noise only happens when the car is moving and appears to to be coming from the front when I slow down or brake.

The local garage don't seem interested and the car passed it's annual road test. Oil has been changed, got a new bush on the front left side but knocking still happening. I did overload the car once, and noticed the noise after this. Any ideas?

Probably no more than the suspension striking part of the exhaust system under compression and just needs adjustment. Alternatively an anti-roll bar sleeve bush has dropped out.
