What are the risks of buying a car with high mileage?

I am looking to by a 2011/2012 Ford C-Max 2.0 TDCi. I am set on the diesel as I do around 20,000 miles a year, mostly motorway. Should I buy an older car with less miles or a newer car with more miles on the clock?

Nowadays, the higher the mileage on a diesel, the closer it will be to needing a timing belt change, a new DPF, a new DMF and clutch and a new EGR.
