How can I change the air filter on a Toyota Avensis?

I have a Toyota Avensis estate and was recently told that I should check my cabin air filters and possibly replace them, I've never done this on a car before.

According to a manual I have for the car the filter is located somewhere in the driver's footwell, I just wanted to know where exactly the filter is and how many of them are there, also is there a separate one for the air conditioning?

The common name is 'pollen filter' and it is situated between the bulkhead vent well and the cabin. I've never known there to be more than one. They can be very fiddly to release, but better on a car like an Avensis that is originally designed to be RHD than on a car originally designed to be LHD,
