Mercedes-Benz SLK - are performance mods a good idea?

I own a 2002 Mercedes SLK 230 Kompressor. I am thinking of having it chip tuned together with installing a sprint booster to boost performance. Good idea or waste of money ?

This is now a 13 year old car, so unless you are prepared to completely rebuild it I wouldn't start messing about with anything that will increase stress on 13 year old components. Your insurer won't like it either.
