I've received a parking charge notice for parking outside marked bays - can I appeal?

I have received a parking charge notice from an enforcement company. Unfortunately I appealed, and whilst doing so admitted to being the driver! I think, however, I can still argue against the fact that they are fining me for obstructive parking and not, as they say in the appeal letter, for "parking outside marked bays." I didn't park in a bay. However, I parked alongside some railings in a very wide road which was not obstructing any vehicle or passenger, as it was too wide. Also, there were no road markings prohibiting parking and quite clearly, the driver behind me also thought it was acceptable to park here. Do you think I have a leg to stand on?
