Can I make a warranty claim over a broken clutch?

I purchased a used (2008) Audi A4 Avant 2.0TDI from an independent dealer seven weeks ago, which is 150 miles away from home. The clutch has failed within the last week and I am not able to return the car to the dealer for them to repair.

There is a three month mechanical warranty, but they will not authorise any work until the clutch is stripped and inspected. I have arranged for the clutch to be stripped out and replaced and intend to subsequently pursue the warranty company and failing that the dealer. Can you advise what is the best approach?
