Need a family MPV for £4000
We are selling our beloved Citroen Berlingo (great MPV, but a stiff clutch and terrible economy around town) and want to buy a new family car that is better for my wife (recently passed her test) to drive.
We want some space, but the Berlingo was overkill. We like the Honda Jazz and have also driven a Peugeot 2008. Most miles are around town in London, so a petrol might be best. The boot should also be big enough to take about three suitcases and a pushchair and carry five people. We do about 6000 miles a year.
Our shortlist is Honda Jazz, Toyota Prius (both petrol), Mitsubishi Colt and Mercedes A-Class both as diesels. Our budget is £4000.

Clever to include a Mitsubishi Colt in your short list because the five-door versions are both roomy and reliable and the 1.5 diesel shared with the Smart ForFour did not have a diesel particulate filter.
Just a warning: the 1.3 petrol is boring to drive. But the cars are generally better value than a Jazz or an A Class and a £4000 Prius is a bit big and will be quite old.
