I'd like to replace my Hyundai Coupe with an ix35 - should I wait for the 1.7GDI version, due in the autumn?

I'm thinking of changing my 3-year-old Hyundai Coupe. I could do with something a bit more frugal on fuel and VED, and something which will cope with the awful potholed roads around Manchester. I like the look of the ix35 but the spec of the 2.0-litre petrol version isn't too thrilling and I'm not sure I do enough miles (10,000 per year) to justify the diesel. Would it be best to wait for the 1.7GDI version which I think is due in the autumn?

The 2.0-litre isn't a bad choice but we agree that you're better off waiting for the 1.6 GDI petrol engine (the 1.7 is a CRDI diesel) which will be more efficient than the 2.0-litre. It's got enough poke with 140bhp and although there aren't any figures in economy yet, it will be fitted with an engine stop/start system so CO2 emissions should be low too. 10,000 miles a year could justify a diesel but it depends on what kind of driving it is (in town probably not, but on the motorway you might see some benefits). The 1.7 CRDI should be very economical as it also uses the stop/start system and Hyundai have said that emissions will be 139g/km of CO2.
