Heavy tyre wear with Audi A4 Avant

I own a Audi A4 Avant which is eating tyres at an alarming rate. Is there a better tyre for a older sensible driver or are the tyre manufacturers pulling a fast one?

This is one of the penalties of big bling wheels and low profile tyres. The tyres wear faster and cost more to replace. If you want to get 20,000 miles out of your tyres switch to 16-inch wheels and tyres and have the alignment checked.
