Buying a Fiat 500 - which engine is best?

I want to buy a Fiat 500 for my wife's 60th birthday. She does short trips, with occasional longer journeys and motorway driving. Which is the best engine? It mustn't be too dull.

The TwinAir. FIAT's mods to the 1.2 4-cylinder to meet EU6 have made it nasty to drive and the diesel has had some very serious DPF problems.
