Bought a car for £1000 and the gearbox has died - what are my rights?

I bought a a Fiat Stilo from a dealer about a month ago for a £1000. However, the gearbox has now packed up. Can you please tell me what my rights are ?

You have some rights, but obviously these are diminished because the car is 12 years old and you paid less than 10% of its new price: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
